So, you’ve purchased the Nissan that you’ve had your eye on for some time from CMH Nissan Hillcrest. But did you know that the manufacturer offers a 6-year/150 000 km warranty (on all models) and a 3-year/90 000 km service plan (on select models)?

Standard service plans come with most vehicles. Usually, the price of the plan is included in the vehicle’s purchase price. Your vehicle will benefit from the above plan when it is being serviced and maintained.

Understanding the Difference Between a Service Plan a Warranty Plan and a Maintenance Plan.

Warranty

Almost every new vehicle comes with some kind of warranty, but it varies from brand to brand. All warranties, however, are limited in terms of time and mileage. Warranty coverage is a promise from the manufacturer that any manufacturing faults or factory defects will be repaired or replaced within a specified period. Engines, gearboxes, electric components, fuel systems, and sensors are all covered by the warranty; however it is important to note a warranty does not cover all items. The items not covered are tyres and brake pads, and any damage resulting from negligence. Damages caused by wreck-less driving or indecent use could void a warranty. Make sure you familiarise yourself with exactly what is covered under the manufacturer warranty and for how long.

Service Plan

A service plan covers all the costs involved in having your vehicle serviced as per the stipulations of the manufacturer. This will generally include the labour and replacement cost of air, pollen, oil filters, cam belts, brake fluid, oil and gearbox oil and spark plugs. These services will have to be carried out by an authorised service centre or dealer network to guarantee that the terms of the service plan are met.


Maintenance Plan

Although the Nissan brand does not come standard with a maintenance plan it’s available as an optional extra that can be included on your finance application. A maintenance plan is basically an upgrade on a service plan which include wear-and-tear on the vehicle such as the gearbox, clutch, suspension, brake pad, discs, wiper blades, shock absorbers, globes and fuses, wheel bearings, replacement gas for air-conditioning system etc. The maintenance plan simply covers the cost of your regular service (including labour) as well as the cost of repairs to parts caused by wear and tear.
